The Big Draw is a national initiative to promote drawing and it is takes place annually throughout October

In The Picture took part in The Big Draw by offering a range of sample lesson plans, all designed to put disabled children "in the picture".

One of the schools that took part this year was Barnburgh Primary School near Doncaster. The children had great fun putting disabled children "in the picture"!

The whole school took part from Nursery to Year 6. They used the session plans provided by In The Picture and adapted them to suit each age group.

Head Teacher, Rosie Baldock said "The children really enjoyed the sessions - the teachers did too! We did some preparatory work with the children and left the rest to their imaginations."

The session plans proved so popular that we have decided to keep them on the website for you to use with any children you work with.

We want children to have fun, to learn something about how we live in society - it even fits in to the art and design curriculum at key stage 1 and 2 - and contribute to our children's gallery as another way to inspire the book world.

The age range for the session plans is entirely flexible; use the plans as an outline for an art session and adapt them to suit the needs of the children.

Ideas for making sure all children are included can be found here. [602kb PDF]

The sessions have been inspired by three illustrators and by the Quentin Blake Award project. Find out more by clicking on the links:
